“9/11: 20 Years On” A Documentary Short

from New York Based Filmmakers Richard Chen, Rachel Cheung, and Andrew Matsuyama

Richard Chen, the director of the documentary short “9/11: 20 Years On”, began his film after
receiving the Tisch Research Cohort Grant while attending New York University’s Tisch School
of the Arts. His goal was to explore the stories of the first responders after its 20th Anniversary,
but as the project progressed, it evolved into revealing the formidable emotional tolls and
health consequences that ensued after the attacks.

“More first responders have died from health implications from the clean-up of Ground Zero than
those who died on 9/11,” said Jon Adler, the past President of F.L.E.O.A., in the documentary.
In the film, Chen also speaks with acclaimed documentary filmmaker Gedeon Naudet who
captured one of the only existing footage of the firefighters inside the World Trade Center on
9/11.

The film was produced by Rachel Cheung and filmed by Andrew Matsuyama, both fellow NYU alumni.
