F.L.E.O. Foundation Issues Statement in Support of the POLICE Act.
The Federal Law Enforcement Officers Foundation applauds the introduction of the Protect Our Law Enforcement With Immigration Control and Enforcement (POLICE) Act by Senator Ted Budd. This bill codifies assaults by undocumented aliens against law enforcement officers as a deportable offense. The POLICE Act applies to any undocumented alien who is convicted of assaulting a law enforcement officer, and it demonstrates our federal government's commitment to officer safety. By requiring the alien be convicted of the assault, this bill refutes any cop-hating rants that this is a xenophobic alien-hunt. Undocumented aliens come to the U.S. seeking freedom, but that should not include a free swing at police officers.
Since 1993, the F.L.E.O. Foundation's primary mission has been to provide immediate support to the surviving families of federal officers killed in the line of duty. The mission also includes providing prompt support to those severely injured in the line of duty. While it is an honor to serve as the 'First Responders for our First Responders,' it is heart-breaking to witness the unconscionable trauma that inflicts the surviving family members of our fallen heroes. During these tragic circumstances, the kindest of words may only bring a modicum of solace, but there is no magical means to rewind time and prevent the tragic loss of a law enforcement officer. We concede that there is no Time Machine and there is no means to eliminate risk. However, we vehemently condemn any elected official who rejects any sensible initiative to support the wellness of those who serve and minimize the risk of their injury or death. Senator Budd has embraced this initiative and put forth forth an honorable bill to better protect the defenders of our freedoms.

FLEOA and FLEO Foundation Joint Statement in Support of Protecting our Children from Fatal Fentanyl Overdoses
Press Release For Immediate Release February 6, 2025

Joint Federal Law Enforcement Officers Association (FLEOA) – Federal Law Enforcement Officers (FLEO) Foundation Statement in Support of Protecting our Children from Fatal Fentanyl Overdoses
WASHINGTON, DC — On February 1, 2025, President Trump issued executive orders that imposed an increase in tariffs on Mexico, Canada and China. According to the White House Fact Sheet released that same day, “The extraordinary threat posed by illegal aliens and drugs, including deadly fentanyl, constitutes a national emergency under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act.” This is in reference to the lethal drugs and violent aliens stampeding across our nation’s borders, as well as the unconscionable human trafficking driven by the Mexican Cartels.
It is no secret that China and Mexico are responsible for trafficking the vast majority of fentanyl into the United States, and while they profit from killing an average of 75,000 Americans annually, the governments of Mexico and Canada yawn.
After President Trump announced his intention to impose these tariffs, and clearly explained his justification, Mexico’s President Claudia Sheinbaum made the delusional statement that our struggles with fentanyl are the result of law enforcement’s failure to “combat the sale of narcotics on the streets of their main cities.” She expanded her denial by further asserting that American law enforcement also failed to stop the Cartels’ money laundering criminal conduct.
Contrary to her pathetic attempt to deflect all responsibility, law enforcement officers from all departments within the United States risk their lives every day to identify and arrest those criminal aliens responsible for peddling their death to Americans. It is rather telling that Sheinbaum was silent on the increase in the number of law enforcement officers assaulted by violent aliens entering the U.S. through the Southwest Border.
On behalf of the brave law enforcement officers in the Border Patrol, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Homeland Security Investigations, the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the United States Marshals Service, Internal Revenue Service Criminal Investigations, and all federal components protecting our homeland, we denounce the misguided demeaning remarks made by Sheinbaum.
Her unacceptable posture of denial only serves to validate President Trump’s executive orders. Sadly, after President Trump announced the tariffs as a last resort to protect our homeland and the citizenry, certain members of the news media sought to ignore the public safety implications and instead berate his decision.
News headlines whined about how the President’s tariffs may contribute to inflation, and elevate the cost of grocery items that are imported. We are deeply troubled by such irresponsible journalism, and we maintain that sacrificing guacamole and tequila for the safety of our children and all Americans is worth it.
After crying foul over the tariffs, Mexico and Canada quickly acquiesced to President Trump’s demands and agreed to substantially augment their law enforcement presence and efforts at their respective borders. To Canada’s credit, they agreed to allocate $1.3 billion to strengthening their border enforcement and they also created a ‘Fentanyl Czar’ position. Mexico agreed to dispatch 10,000 troops to the Southwest Border in an effort to deter the fentanyl/alien stampede into the United States. So while many critics of the President moaned about the prospective price-hike on their guacamole dip, we are left to wonder why it took the threat of tariffs to get these countries to act responsibly.
In law enforcement, we refer to dying in the line of duty as making the ultimate sacrifice. If law enforcement officers are willing to make that profound sacrifice to keep Americans safe, then we respectfully ask that the critics sacrifice their tequila consumption temporarily so we can better protect them and all Americans from the threat of fentanyl and violent aliens.

Foundation Letter of Support for Tulsi Gabbard Nomination
January 28, 2025
The Honorable Tom Cotton
Chairman, Select Committee
On Intelligence
United States Senate
Washington, DC 20510
The Honorable Mark Warner
Ranking Member, Select Committee
On Intelligence
United State Senate
Washington, DC 20510
Dear Chairman Cotton and Ranking Member Warner:
On behalf of the Federal Law Enforcement Officers Foundation (F.L.E.O. Foundation), I am writing to you in support of the nomination of the Honorable Tulsi Gabbard for the position of Director of National Intelligence (DNI). While we are duly impressed with her combined formidable military and congressional leadership, it is her core character that is truly remarkable. Rather than reiterate her vast accomplishments and exemplary service as a Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Army Reserve, and as an esteemed member of the House of Representatives, we respectfully offer our perspective regarding Lt. Col. Gabbard’s honorable character and why she will excel as the Director of National Intelligence.
The DNI position was born out of the 911 Commission’s recommendation as a means for improving our government’s intelligence sharing within. The message within their message was that the President needs a special leader that is capable of getting the 18 Intelligence Community (IC) heads to play nice and put country before self. We can think of no greater leader that exudes the ‘country before self’ honor than Lt. Col. Gabbard. The F.L.E.O. Foundation recognized Lt. Col Gabbard as the 2022 Patriot of the Year. She embodies three of the prestigious award’s criteria in particular:
We are entirely confident in Lt. Col. Gabbard’s leadership and ability to inspire the directors in the IC to work together for the sanctity of our nation’s security and not their personal ambition. As we all witnessed during the 2014/2015 presidential primary debates, as well as through other public speaking engagements, Lt. Col. Gabbard is a thought-based leader that is clearly intelligent, an excellent listener, patriotic, open-minded and resilient. Those are the traits of a true leader that will serve the President and our country well, and cultivate the maximum level of cooperation among the respective agency directors.
As the national guardian of our federal law enforcement officer’s safety and wellness,we value those agency directors who factor in the safety of their officers and agentswhen they make decisions. In the Intelligence Community, our military operators andlaw enforcement assets assigned oversees inherit the risks born out of director’sdecisions. Tragically, they are the first to become the fatal beneficiaries of badintelligence decisions. We need a DNI who has compassion and respect for thoseexposed to those risks, and can incorporate that into their decisions. Lt. Col. Gabbardvoluntarily put herself in harm’s way repeatedly during her honorable militaryservice, and she understands the value of balancing risk, prospective outcomes andofficer/public safety.
We are familiar with Lt. Col. Gabbard’s concerns regarding committing our armedforces to regime-change wars. We respect and share her concerns as history hasshown they typically yield nothing more than body-bags for fallen American heroes.Irrespective of her views on this, Lt. Col. Gabbard stands ready to deploy once againwith honor and put herself in harm’s way for her country. She is a true warrior and not a self-serving conscientious objector who safely espouses views far from danger. Lt. Col. Gabbard will draw upon her critical thinking and her first-hand experiences when convening the IC Secretaries/Directors to weigh intelligence and options. The president doesn’t need a fly on the wall with a pencil and legal pad during Intelligence briefings.
Lt. Col. Gabbard has demonstrated her willingness to be front and center during conflicts and not opine from a safe place. She met with former Syria dictator Assad to get a firsthand assessment of him and the chaos ensuing under his command. She didn’t meet with him because of secret aspirations to be the president of the evil dictator fan club. Lt. Col. Gabbard met with Assad, in part, because our adversaries need to be confronted and questioned directly. Lt. Col. Gabbard also understands the United States does not have exclusive rights to fake news, and that not all of the international Syria news coverage was necessarily accurate. Intelligence work entails more than reading news articles and Tom Clancy novels.
Intelligence work also requires accountability, and Lt. Col. Gabbard has proven that she understands this. As active and former federal law enforcement officers, we didn’t tremble when Lt. Col. Gabbard expressed past concerns regarding the application of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA). We understand the sanctity of protecting civil liberties, and we honor the Miranda warning card that we all carry. Lt. Col. Gabbard has since learned more about the respective federal agencies' accountability protocols. In particular, the Department of Justice, Office of Inspect or General has been on-point to ensure any allegations of abuse are investigated timely and thoroughly. We are comfortable with Lt. Col. Gabbard’s candid explanation of her prior and current views, and we applaud her approach toward evaluating matters that impact the protection of our citizenry.
Without question, the President needs a DNI that is honorable, intelligent, internationally astute, and confident. Neither the President nor our citizenry needs someone who slouches at the podium while exuding the panicked countenance of a child who is separated from their parent at the airport unexpectedly. We need a strong leader like Lt. Col. Gabbard who understands our nation’s leverage as well as the capacity and character of our nation’s adversaries. Historically, our country has erred in thinking that bureaucratic chess-minded thinkers are the best fit for our IC. Unfortunately, the world is littered with violent dictators who believe the upper case “I” is the only rule they follow. What happens when you play chess with a barbarian? Your King and Queen get eaten. We support the current IC leaders who have been confirmed, and we strongly recommend that you vote in favor of Lt. Col. Gabbard to serve honorably as our nation’s next Director of National Intelligence. We would be blessed to have her as one of our nation’s leaders.

To every member of Congress, please hear our heartfelt voice on behalf of our fallen heroes. There isn't an acceptable Nay vote, and there isn't an acceptable Abstain vote. If you don't support the POLICE Act, then we respectfully ask that you refrain from ever calling 9-1-1 and not further desecrate the ultimate sacrifice of our fallen heroes. This officer safety bill is non-partisan and has nothing to do with your border security or immigration reform debates. It's about preventing harm to those who risk it all to keep us safe while creating consequences for undocumented aliens who casually trample upon the sanctity of their lives.
In April of 2024, Police Magazine published a Guest Editorial submitted by F.L.E.O. Foundation President Jon Adler that summarized the alarming number of recent assaults committed by aliens against law enforcement officers. These horrific attacks resulted in officers being assaulted, shot or killed. President Adler noted that from October 2023 to April 2024, there were 140,000 "known got-always" that made illegal entry through the Southwest Border. If just 1% of this group were violent criminals, that equates to a possible 1,400 aliens that may jeopardize the safety of Officers and the public.
Without question, the number one priority of our government is to protect the citizenry. We applaud Senator Budd for recognizing that law enforcement officers not only risk their lives to provide these protections, but are also citizens who are equally entitled to these same protections as well. The POLICE Act sends a resounding message to all who enter our country illegally: there is no sanctuary for you when you assault a law enforcement officer. The F.L.E.O. Foundation respectfully asks all members of Congress to demonstrate their commitment to law and order, and to the Officers who sustain it, and endorse the POLICE Act immediately.
